Jago Taylor Reflects On His Trident Placement at JOA

My Work Experience at JOA 

I chose JOA as one of my Trident work experience options because I felt I would really enjoy it. I study Geography at school and have particularly enjoyed the topics we have covered this year. I was also intrigued by how Jersey supports and works with countries around the world, as well as the different ways in which this is achieved. 

On my first day, I was warmly welcomed by every member of the team. After being introduced to the office and setting up my computer account, I began working on the tasks that I would be completing over the following two weeks. This made me feel comfortable and excited to start my placement at JOA.

Throughout my time at JOA, I learnt a great deal about international development, which I found particularly interesting. I also had the opportunity to speak individually with each member of the team and learn more about their specific roles and responsibilities. This helped me gain a better understanding of how an organisation works as a team and how different people contribute to achieving its goals. Furthermore, I expanded my knowledge of the recent Ebola outbreaks in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Uganda and learnt about their potential impact on neighbouring countries as well as JOA’s target countries. 

I would like to thank everyone at JOA for providing me with such a valuable work experience opportunity. The placement helped me develop my teamwork, research and communication skills while also allowing me to learn more about the important work that JOA carries out around the world. It was an enjoyable and rewarding experience that I will remember in the future.
